Resources to help ease your anxiety during COVID-19

My dears,

I’m stressed. I feel anxiety. I feel overwhelm.

My wedding was meant to be this Friday. My fiance and I have been planning and preparing for months, investing thousands of dollars, hundreds of hours, and lots and lots of energy toward this big, beautiful day in our lives.

And now, with social-isolation in full swing, we have postponed the wedding indefinitely.

My heart hurts, friends. My heart weighs heavy in my chest, fluttering like a bug on its back, worrying about how all of this will play out.

I am not immune to the collective anxiety. I am a conduit for it.

I feel it all, and I use all my tools to ground and stay present, because what we each need now is our own deepest truths.

We all need to know we are anchored.

So, I would like to offer you some tools and practices I have been using to settle my own fluttering heart and aching soul, in hopes that you will find some comfort in these uncertain times.

I am also opening more availability for one on one Spiritual Direction sessions to help you navigate these waters, create plans to help you move forward, and cultivate practices that will sustain you through the changes. You can schedule your session here.

Daily Medicine

Each morning for five to ten minutes, sit in silence with a hand on your heart, breathe deep into your belly, and remind yourself of the following:

“I am Love.”

“I am Peace.”

“I am Safe.”

Repeat throughout the day. Often.

Then take a few minutes to journal your thoughts and feelings. GET IT OUT! Keeping your thoughts and feelings swirling inside is like trapping gas inside a balloon. Eventually it will explode. So let it out. Write out everything in your mind, every feeling you have in your body, every fear, every broken plan. Write it all down.

Then remind yourself you are capable of taking the next right step. You are safe.

Music medicine

I have been listening to Chillhop. It soothes and grounds me, and perhaps it will do the same for you. Music is medicine. Let yourself be comforted by its offerings.

I also have felt nurtured by the music of Yo-Yo Ma, especially the videos he has posted on his Facebook.

Story Medicine

Read the story of Pan and Psyche, how Pan holds both chaos and panacea in the pandemic.

These podcasts have nurtured my soul in so so many ways. May they bless you as well.
